Winter Fishing Report

20130223_141701So far this winter, the fishing has been great, despite the cooler water temperatures.  The trout and sheepshead are plenty active, and anglers have been catching quite a few snook inside the Blind Pass area.  We’ve also had a few really nice sharks caught right along the beach.  Come on in and we can help you get rigged up for them, provide the baits and talk to you about the best way to handle and release them. We really like this time of year because the sheepshead and trout are very active, the water is clean and beautiful and our perfect weather makes for a great day on the water.  Our charters have been routinely catching really nice sheepshead, trout and ladyfish with redfish mixed in.  One customer last week even caught a bunch of bluefish.  There are also lots of ladyfish around and they can keep your rods bent all morning.

In the back bays, redfishing has been good when the water warms up a few degrees in the afternoon sun and on the flats trout action has been great, especially early in the morning on top water plugs.  Snook will take baits this time of year especially when the water warms a little in the afternoon.

There have also been a good mix of pompano around the Sanibel Lighthouse.  They are great tasting, hard fighting and lots of fun to catch – we can show you how to rig up for them and what baits to use.   We have a few charter captains catching groupers in the passes while drifting live baits.

The cold fronts that come down this time of year are relatively short lived and the fishing turns right back on within a day or two, so if you’re in town and want to go fishing, don’t let a cool front cancel your plans, we can get you out on the water, put a bend in your rod and a smile on your face.
