Anglers, summer fishing has been good and with fall right around the corner things are going to get even better. Much has been made about the above average summer rainfall we’ve had this year in Southwest Florida, the water has certainly changed color and it’s brown just about everywhere you go, but fish need to eat every day and they are still out there and are taking topwater plugs, jerkbaits, spoons, live and frozen baits of all kinds and even well placed flies.
The back-bay fishing has been very good for trout, jacks, ladyfish, spanish mackerel and pompano. Off the beaches there are plenty of sharks, king mackerel are beginning to appear along the bunched up bait balls and there are still a few tarpon around. We even jumped a few this week ourselves along the beach. We have been fishing early in the day to beat the afternoon thunderstorms back to the dock, if you can get out late after the storms have cleared it’s also a great time to fish.
If you like fishing for sharks, come on in, we’ve got all the bait and rigs you need to get out there and catch a big one. There are plenty of sharks to be caught along the beaches, day or night.
With fall right around the corner we will begin seeing redfish schooling up on the flats. Snook will remain along the beaches and Blind Pass, also plenty of snook are being caught at the Sanibel Pier. This time of year we also begin to see large groups of bait all along the beaches , they are easy to spot with diving birds and these are great opportunities to get into ladyfish, jacks, mackeral and even some tarpon and sharks. When you find diving birds like that the fishing action can be non-stop, it’s a great way to spend a few hours and the kids really love it.
